Tried and tested dog training collars
Dogs sometimes develop problem behaviours that can be hard to curb with conventional training methods. Whether it be the speedy escape artist off their lead, or the working Kelpie nipping the cattle a bit too enthusiastically, most dogs have moments of “selective hearing” when your voice commands are completely ignored.
It is important to correct an unwanted behaviour immediately it occurs because a dog has a very brief short term memory span. A remote training collar allows you to communicate with your dog the instant it is needed, even at a distance, by means of a static pulse that your dog is unlikely to ignore. When used in conjunction with your normal training programme, it allows you to reinforce commands, correct problems, and deter dangerous habits such as chasing kangaroos and snakes.
Electronic training collars are available in a selection of distance ranges from 100 metres up to around 1800m. The operating manual for the product may specify that the maximum operating range is in “line-of-sight” conditions only .When a remote trainer is described as a “line of sight” trainer, this means that the sending antenna (your handset) and the receiving antenna (dog collar) must be in view of each other in flat open terrain without obstruction between them.
Collar range can be be affected by terrain, weather, vegetation, transmission from other radio devices, dog runs, metal buildings, and radio towers. These obstacles will cut down the maximum distance you’ll get from you collar. The inexpensive, very short range collars are suitable for pets around the yard where your dog is up close in full view, but not suited to off leash work outside the property or working dogs. A mid-range remote trainer will give you a bit more range to play with, but may still be affected by bushy terrain so keep your dog in sight for training sessions.
For reliable remote trainers for working and hunting dogs check out our training collars from DT Systems. They have the most consistent collar range on the market thanks to the in-built antenna in the collar strap.
